Uspenski Cathedral
Getting around: On Katajanokka island, 10 minutes from Senate Square, across the water from Helsinki Cathedral.
Hours: Typically Tuesday-Friday 9:30-16:00, Saturday 10:00-15:00, Sunday 12:00-15:00, closed Mondays.
Uspenski is the largest Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe, built in the 1860s in red brick with gilded domes, a deliberate visual contrast to Helsinki Cathedral's white neoclassicism across the harbor. Dense iconostasis and dim interiors feel entirely different from the Lutheran cathedral.
It remains an active parish church, so visits sometimes coincide with services.
