Temppeliaukio Church

Getting around: In Toolo, about a 15-minute walk from central Helsinki or a short ride on trams 1/2.
Hours: Varies daily due to concerts, weddings and services — check the current schedule before going.

Temppeliaukio, the Rock Church, is carved directly into granite bedrock, only its copper dome visible above ground — completed 1969, turning an unbuildable outcrop into a landmark. The unfinished rock walls give exceptional acoustics, used regularly for concerts.

Because of that active schedule, hours fluctuate more than most churches — check ahead.
