Pohang
Pohang is a steel-industry city - POSCO, one of the world's largest steel producers, is headquartered and has its main plant here, and the city's economy and skyline reflect that. For visitors, the appeal is mostly coastal: Homigot, the easternmost point on the Korean mainland, is famous as a sunrise-watching destination and draws large crowds for New Year's Day, marked by a large bronze sculpture of hands rising from the sea.
Guryongpo, a fishing town within Pohang's boundaries, has a preserved street of early 20th-century Japanese-style wooden houses from the colonial fishing-industry era, now a modest walking district.
