Paritutū Beach
Paritutu Rock is a steep, ancient volcanic plug rising abruptly from New Plymouth's coastline near the port, with a short but genuinely steep scramble (using a chain in places) to the summit for sweeping views over the city, coast, and out to the Sugar Loaf Islands. It's a quick climb but not a casual stroll — the final section requires some scrambling and isn't suitable for those uncomfortable with heights or exposed terrain.
It's a worthwhile short stop if you're comfortable with the scramble, offering one of the better views in New Plymouth for relatively little time investment.
