Govett-Brewster Art Gallery
The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, combined with the adjoining Len Lye Centre, holds New Zealand's leading collection of contemporary art alongside the world's largest collection of work by kinetic artist and filmmaker Len Lye, whose distinctive mirrored-facade building is itself a landmark on New Plymouth's main street. Len Lye's kinetic sculptures — some of which move and make sound — are a highlight, quite unlike a standard static gallery experience.
It's a well-regarded regional gallery worth a couple of hours, particularly if you're interested in experimental or kinetic art.
