Auckland Zoo houses around 1,400 animals from 135 species across naturalistic enclosures grouped by region — New Zealand natives (kiwi, tuatara, kea), Australia, Africa, and Southeast Asia among them. The nocturnal kiwi house is one of the more reliable places in the country to actually see a kiwi, since they're notoriously hard to spot in the wild.
