Auckland Art Gallery
The Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki holds New Zealand's largest collection of national and international art, spread across a heritage 1887 French Chateau-style building joined to a striking 2011 timber-and-glass extension. The combination of old and new architecture is itself worth seeing, with the canopy roof over the entrance courtyard modelled on native pōhutukawa branches.
Collections run from colonial-era paintings and a strong body of Māori and Pacific art through to contemporary New Zealand and international works, with rotating touring exhibitions in the lower-level galleries.
