Weta Cave
Weta Cave is a small exhibition space and shop showcasing props, models, and effects work from Weta Workshop, the special effects and prop company behind The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and numerous other major film productions, based in nearby studios in Miramar. Guided tours (bookable) go further, taking visitors into working areas of the studio and giving insight into the practical effects and miniature work behind well-known films.
It's a must for fans of the Lord of the Rings films or practical filmmaking generally, and Wellington's broader film industry connections (it's sometimes called 'Wellywood') make Miramar worth a visit for cinema enthusiasts.
