Redwoods Treewalk

Getting around: About 10 minutes' drive (or a walkable distance for the fit) south of central Rotorua, within the Whakarewarewa Forest.
Hours: Open daily; daytime hours typically around 9am-5pm, with a separate night-lit walk running into the evening (times vary by season).

The Redwoods Treewalk is a series of suspension bridges strung between towering Californian redwood trees within Whakarewarewa Forest, letting visitors walk at canopy height through the forest. A separate, popular night version lights the walkway with lantern-style lights after dark, giving a very different atmosphere from the daytime walk.

The redwoods themselves, planted in the early 20th century, have grown into an unusually tall and striking forest for New Zealand, and the walk is a relatively short, easy way to experience it from an unusual vantage point.
