Orakei Korako is a geothermal valley reached only by a short boat crossing, giving it a slightly more remote, less-crowded feel than some of the region's roadside thermal parks. It features silica terraces (some of the largest visible in New Zealand following the loss of the original Pink and White Terraces in 1886), geysers, and a cave with an underground pool.

The boat crossing and 1.5-2 hour boardwalk loop through the geothermal area make for a solid half-visit, appealing particularly to those who've already seen Rotorua's more accessible parks and want something a bit different.
