Northern Quarter
The Northern Quarter is Manchester's arts, music, and independent shopping district, a former textile warehouse area now filled with vintage clothing shops, independent record stores, street art, and a dense concentration of bars and live music venues. It grew out of Manchester's post-industrial creative scene and retains a grittier, more alternative character than the more polished city centre shopping streets.
Afflecks (a multi-floor indoor market of independent stalls) is a long-running fixture, and the area's street art, much of it officially commissioned, adds visual interest to a wander through its backstreets. It's less about a single attraction and more about the overall atmosphere: browsing shops by day, and bars and gig venues by night.
