Naramachi
Naramachi is a preserved merchant district south of Nara Park, its narrow lanes lined with traditional wooden machiya townhouses, many now converted into cafes, craft shops, and small museums. It grew up historically around Gango-ji temple and retains a quieter, more residential feel than the temple-heavy sights further north.
It's a good area to wander for lunch or browsing after visiting the main park sights, offering a slower-paced counterpoint to the deer and crowds nearby.
