Fairy Pools
The Fairy Pools are a series of crystal-clear turquoise pools and small waterfalls cascading down the River Brittle in Glen Brittle, on Skye's southwest side, with the jagged Black Cuillin ridge as a backdrop. The water's striking clarity and colour come from the underlying rock and glacial origin of the glen, and on a sunny day the pools genuinely do look almost unreal — hence the name. It has become one of the most Instagrammed spots on Skye, and popularity has brought both a proper car park and, in peak summer, real congestion on the trail.
The walk out from the car park follows a well-maintained path along the river, with pool after pool to explore, and some visitors swim in the (very cold, even in summer) water. It's an easy, family-friendly walk rather than a serious hike, but the exposed glen can turn wet and windy fast, so waterproofs and decent footwear are worth having regardless of the forecast.
