Dunmore Head
Dunmore Head is the westernmost point of mainland Ireland, a dramatic headland at the far end of the Dingle Peninsula's Slea Head Drive, jutting out into the Atlantic with sweeping views across to the Blasket Islands just offshore. The headland gained an unlikely dose of pop-culture fame when it was used as a filming location for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, standing in for parts of the fictional planet Ahch-To, and fans of the films occasionally make the trip specifically for that reason. Beyond the film connection, it's simply one of the most exposed and scenic points on the Irish mainland — grassy clifftop paths, sheer drops to the sea, and an outsized sense of being at the very edge of Europe, especially on a clear day when the uninhabited Blasket Islands lie visible across the sound. The walk out to the headland from the small car park is short but should be treated with care given the unfenced cliff edges and frequently strong Atlantic winds.
