Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond (formerly known as Anapji) was a secondary Silla royal palace complex built around an artificial pond, used for royal banquets and receptions, and today it's most famous for its nighttime illumination, when the reconstructed pavilions reflect in the still pond water — widely considered one of the best night views in Gyeongju and heavily photographed.

A visit works well either in daylight to appreciate the layout and archaeological context, or at night for the atmospheric lighting; many visitors do both, treating it as a daytime historic stop and a separate evening photography destination.
