Daereungwon
Daereungwon is a park of over twenty large grass-covered burial mounds belonging to Silla-dynasty kings, queens, and nobility, clustered together in central Gyeongju in a way that's genuinely unusual to see within a modern city — walking paths wind between the mounds, some reaching over 20 meters high. Cheonmachong, one of the mounds, has an excavated interior open to visitors, but most of the tombs remain unopened grassy hills.
It's one of the defining images of Gyeongju and a core stop on any visit, equally striking whether visited during the day for the scale of the mounds or at night when the park is softly lit.
