Via Etnea
Via Etnea is Catania's main shopping and promenade street, running in a straight line from Piazza del Duomo toward the foothills of Mount Etna, with the volcano visible down the street on clear days. It's lined with shops, cafes, and Baroque-era buildings that reflect the same post-1693 rebuilding as the rest of central Catania.
It passes several of the city's key squares and gardens along the way, including Villa Bellini, making it a natural spine for exploring the historic center on foot.
In the evening it becomes a popular spot for a passeggiata, the local tradition of an unhurried evening stroll.
