Red Valley
Red Valley is one of Cappadocia's most scenic hiking areas, named for the striking reddish and pink hues in its rock walls, which glow especially vividly at sunset. It's part of a connected network of valleys (often walked together with adjacent Rose Valley) between Göreme and Çavuşin, threading through fairy chimneys, small rock-cut churches, pigeon houses carved into cliff faces, and vineyards planted in the fertile valley floor. Unlike the more famous ticketed sites, Red Valley is an open, unstructured landscape best experienced on foot, with trails ranging from easy valley-floor walks to more adventurous scrambles along the ridgelines.
The valley is also one of the best vantage points in the region for watching sunrise hot air balloons drift overhead, and its western-facing slopes make it a favorite spot for sunset viewing, when the red rock takes on a deep glow. Trails are generally unmarked or lightly marked, so a map, GPS app, or local guide is helpful for longer routes, though shorter sections near the main viewpoints are easy to find independently.
