Piazza del Plebiscito is Naples' largest and grandest public square, framed by the Royal Palace on one side and the curved neoclassical colonnade of the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola on the other, built in the early 19th century to commemorate the restoration of Bourbon rule. Its scale and symmetry make it one of the most photogenic open spaces in southern Italy.

Once used partly as a car park, the square was pedestrianized in the 1990s and has since become a central gathering space for events, concerts, and everyday city life.

It anchors a natural walking route through central Naples, sitting directly between the Royal Palace, Teatro di San Carlo, and Castel Nuovo.
