My Khe Beach

Getting around: On the east side of Da Nang, across the Han River from downtown — a 10-15 minute taxi or Grab ride, or walkable from beachfront hotels along Vo Nguyen Giap street.
Hours: Open 24 hours as a public beach; swimming is safest during daylight, and lifeguards are typically present in the main swimming zones during the day in high season.

My Khe is Da Nang's main city beach, a long stretch of light sand facing the East Sea, lined with resorts, restaurants, and beach clubs — it's the beach that gave Da Nang its reputation as an emerging beach-city destination alongside its history as a wartime R&R spot for American troops (who called it China Beach). It's clean and well-maintained, with reasonably gentle, swimmable surf for most of the year.

Morning and late afternoon are the most pleasant times to be out, both for temperature and because locals use it heavily for exercise and swimming at those hours; midday sun can be intense with limited natural shade outside of rented beach chairs and umbrellas.

My Khe Beach FAQs

Is the water safe for swimming?

Generally yes in the main swimming areas, though rip currents can appear, especially in rougher weather — stick to flagged/lifeguarded zones when in doubt.

Is it a good beach for a full beach day?

Yes, it's Da Nang's primary city beach with plenty of rental chairs, umbrellas, and beachfront restaurants.

What's the best time to visit?

Early morning or late afternoon, both for lighter crowds and cooler temperatures.

Are there beach clubs along My Khe?

Yes, several beach clubs and resorts along the strip offer loungers, pools, and food/drink service.

Is it walkable from central Da Nang?

It's across the river from the old city center, so it's more practical to take a short taxi/Grab or stay at a beachfront hotel.
