Linnansaari is a national park across islands and islets in Lake Saimaa, accessible only by boat, best known as core habitat of the Saimaa ringed seal — a freshwater subspecies found nowhere else, now critically endangered with only a few hundred individuals. Swimming, hiking and the chance (never guaranteed) of a seal sighting, particularly in late spring, are the draws.

Visiting requires more planning than a typical park: a guided tour, rental boat or your own vessel from Rantasalmi or Oravi.
