Howth
Howth is the fishing village at the northern tip of Dublin Bay, sitting on its own small peninsula and reachable directly by DART from the city center, which makes it Dublin's most popular quick coastal escape. The harbor is still a working one, with trawlers unloading and a strip of seafood restaurants and chippers right on the pier that make it one of the best places near Dublin for fresh fish and chips eaten looking out at the boats. Beyond the harbor, the real draw is the cliff path that circles Howth Head — a network of routes with genuinely dramatic sea views, gorse and heather in bloom through summer, and a lighthouse at the tip — along with Ireland's Eye, a small uninhabited island just offshore that boat trips run out to. It's compact enough to do as a half-day trip but rewarding enough, between the walk, the harbor, and the seafood, to easily fill a full day.
