Bondi Beach
Bondi is Australia's most famous beach — a wide, crescent-shaped stretch of sand backed by a lively cafe and shopping strip, with genuinely strong surf and swimming conditions (and the Icebergs ocean pool at its southern end). It's touristy and crowded by Sydney beach standards, but it earns the reputation for both the setting and the energy of the place.
The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk starts right here and is one of Sydney's best short hikes, running along clifftops past several smaller beaches — worth doing at least part of if you're visiting Bondi anyway.
