Barceloneta is Barcelona's old fishermen's quarter turned beach neighborhood, a grid of narrow streets between the port and the city's main urban beach. It has a different texture from the rest of central Barcelona: lower buildings, laundry lines strung across balconies, and a concentration of seafood restaurants and beach bars along the promenade.

The beach itself is a long stretch of sand backed by the promenade and the sail-shaped W Hotel at its far end, popular with both locals and tourists for swimming, volleyball, and sunset walks. It gets crowded and can feel touristy near the water in summer, and pickpocketing on the beach is a real concern worth being alert to.
